A budding rose

A rose bud from my garden.

A rose by any other name would smell so sweet ...

in other words what's in a name.

How can we describe with words the beauty artists give to images?

Sensory infomation-

What do the petals feel like?  How is the light hitting the bud?

The fragrance and what it reminds you of. The sound of birds singing or bees buzzing as you gaze on the rose?

Imagery-

The closed bud holding inside the potential beauty of the unfolded petals.

For me the description of the image ties the reader and the author together in a shared experience.

Add a metaphor or a simile and its a recipe for description with beautiful flavor.
